George Raymond Richard Martin (born September 20, 1948) is an American writer of fantasy and science fiction, best known for A Song of Ice and Fire, the epic saga adapted into Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Growing up in modest means in Bayonne, New Jersey, he combined early work in journalism with a love of speculative fiction and historical depth. With multiple Hugo and Nebula awards, he has shaped modern fantasy by melding complex characters, political intrigue, and moral ambiguity. His storytelling reaches a global audience, inspiring readers and creators alike to imagine richly, write boldly, and believe in worlds beyond ours.
"Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: The realm. Do you know what the realm is? It's the thousand blades of Aegon's enemies, a story we agree to tell each other over and over, until we forget that it's a lie.Lord Varys: But what do we have left, once we abandon the lie? Chaos? A gaping pit waiting to swallow us all.Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish: Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, are given a chance to climb. They refuse, they cling to the realm or the gods or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is."

He tossed his spear at my feet and gave my mother the back of his hand across the face, so she began to weep. 'Girl or boy, we fight our battles,' he said, 'but the gods let us choose our weapons.' He pointed to the spear, then to my mother's tears, and I picked up the spear."

"Remember this, boy. All dwarfs may be bastards, yet not all bastards need be dwarfs."And with that he turned and sauntered back into the feast, whistling a tune. When he opened the door, the light from within threw his shadow clear across the yard, and for just a moment Tyrion Lannister stood tall as a king."
