Elizabeth I was the Queen of England and Ireland from 1558 to 1603. Her reign, known as the Elizabethan Era, is marked by a flourishing of English drama, including the works of William Shakespeare, and the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Elizabeth's leadership, political acumen, and patronage of the arts made her one of the most iconic and influential monarchs in British history.
