Thomas Sydenham was an English physician born on September 10, 1624. He is often referred to as the "father of English medicine" for his contributions to the field. Sydenham was known for his observations on diseases and his emphasis on clinical practice. His work laid the foundation for modern medical practices, and his writings continue to be influential in the study of medicine.
"I confidently affirm that the greater part of those who are supposed to have died of gout, have died of the medicine rather than the disease - a statement in which I am supported by observation."
