Ronald Fisher was an English mathematician born on June 17, 1890. He is known for his pioneering work in statistics and genetics. Fisher developed many statistical methods that are widely used today, including the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and maximum likelihood estimation. His contributions to mathematics and science have had a lasting impact, and he is regarded as one of the founders of modern statistical science.
"To consult the statistician after an experiment is finished is often merely to ask him to conduct a post mortem examination. He can perhaps say what the experiment died of."
"I believe sanity and realism can be restored to the teaching of Mathematical Statistics most easily and directly by entrusting such teaching largely to men and women who have had personal experience of research in the Natural Sciences."
"The analysis of variance is not a mathematical theorem, but rather a convenient method of arranging the arithmetic."
