John Bigelow was an American lawyer, diplomat, and author who played a significant role in shaping U.S. foreign policy during the 19th century. As the U.S. Consul in Paris during the Civil War, he worked to prevent European recognition of the Confederacy. Bigelow was also an advocate for public education and a prolific writer, with works that include a biography of Benjamin Franklin. His contributions to American diplomacy and literature have left a lasting legacy.
