James Loeb, an American businessman and philanthropist, left a lasting legacy through his support for the arts and humanities. His endowment of the Loeb Classical Library, which provided English translations of ancient Greek and Latin texts, facilitated access to classical literature for generations of scholars and enthusiasts.
