James Boswell was a Scottish lawyer and diarist best known for his biography of Samuel Johnson, one of the most celebrated literary figures of the 18th century. Boswell's detailed and engaging account of Johnson's life has become a seminal work in biographical literature, and his own diaries provide valuable insights into 18th-century life and society.
