Ira Gershwin was an American lyricist who, alongside his brother George Gershwin, created some of the most enduring songs in American musical theater and popular music. Known for his clever, sophisticated lyrics, Ira Gershwin's work includes classics like "I Got Rhythm", "Someone to Watch Over Me", and the songs from the opera Porgy and Bess. His contributions to the Great American Songbook have made him one of the most celebrated lyricists in history.
