Hannes Alfven was a Swedish scientist and physicist who made significant contributions to the field of plasma physics and space science. He is best known for his work on magnetohydrodynamics and cosmic plasma phenomena, which led to the development of the Alfven wave theory. Alfven's research had a profound impact on our understanding of space physics and contributed to the advancement of astrophysics and space exploration. His achievements earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1970.
"We have to learn again that science without contact with experiments is an enterprise which is likely to go completely astray into imaginary conjecture."
"We should remember that there was once a discipline called natural philosophy. Unfortunately, this discipline seems not to exist today. It has been renamed science, but science of today is in danger of losing much of the natural philosophy aspect."
