Art Blakey was an American jazz drummer and bandleader renowned for his work with the Jazz Messengers. His powerful drumming and innovative approach to jazz made him a key figure in the development of hard bop. Blakey's groups featured many notable young musicians who went on to have significant careers of their own. His impact on jazz and his role in mentoring the next generation of musicians have cemented his place in music history.
