Andrei Sakharov was a Russian physicist and dissident known for his work on the Soviet hydrogen bomb and his later advocacy for human rights and political reform. His scientific achievements and his courageous stance against government repression earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1975. Sakharov's legacy includes both his contributions to science and his commitment to social justice and political freedom.
