Wojciech Jaruzelski, a Polish leader, served as the last communist head of state in Poland. As General Secretary of the Polish United Workers' Party and later as President, Jaruzelski played a key role in the imposition of martial law in Poland in 1981, aiming to suppress the Solidarity movement and maintain communist rule.
