William Gilbert was a British composer born on July 18, 1836. He is best known for his collaborations with Sir Arthur Sullivan, creating famous comic operas such as The Mikado and H.M.S. Pinafore. Gilbert's witty librettos and sharp humor have made a lasting impact on musical theater. He passed away on May 29, 1911, but his works continue to be celebrated in theaters around the world.
