Samantha Smith was an American celebrity born on June 29, 1972. She gained fame as a child when she wrote a letter to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov during the Cold War, expressing her desire for peace. Smith's letter and subsequent visit to the Soviet Union made her an international celebrity and symbol of hope for peaceful relations between the two countries. Tragically, she passed away at a young age in a plane crash, but her message of peace continues to inspire many.
