Ngo Dinh Diem was a Vietnamese politician who served as the first President of South Vietnam from 1955 to 1963. His leadership was marked by efforts to establish a non-communist state in Vietnam, but his regime faced criticism for its autocratic tendencies and corruption. Diem's presidency was a significant period in the lead-up to the Vietnam War.
