Marsilio Ficino was an Italian philosopher and scholar of the Renaissance known for his revival of Platonic philosophy and humanist ideals. As the founder of the Platonic Academy in Florence, Ficino played a central role in the transmission of classical Greek thought to the Western world. His translations of Plato's works and commentaries on Neoplatonism inspired a renaissance of philosophical inquiry and laid the groundwork for the intellectual and cultural flourishing of the Renaissance.
