Lorraine Hansberry was an American playwright born on May 19, 1930. She is best known for her groundbreaking play A Raisin in the Sun, which was the first play on Broadway written by an African American woman. The play addresses themes of race, identity, and family struggles in America. Hansberry's work has had a lasting impact on American theater and continues to be studied and performed today. She was a passionate advocate for civil rights and social justice until her untimely death on January 12, 1965.
