John Calvin was a French theologian and pastor who was a principal figure in the development of the Christian theological system known as Calvinism. His works, including "Institutes of the Christian Religion," laid the foundation for Reformed theology and had a profound impact on the Protestant Reformation. Calvin's influence extended beyond theology to the development of Western thought and the shaping of modern Christianity.
