Joan Baez is an American folk singer, songwriter, and activist whose music became anthems for social change during the 1960s. Known for her pure soprano voice and commitment to civil rights, Baez performed at the March on Washington and was an advocate for nonviolent protest. Her relationship with Bob Dylan and her own hits like "Diamonds & Rust" further solidified her place in folk music history. Baez's influence extends beyond music to her work in human rights activism.

"The easiest kind of relationship for me is with ten thousand people. The hardest is with one."

"The only thing that's been a worse flop than the organization of non-violence has been the organization of violence."
