J. Edgar Hoover was an American public servant born on January 1, 1895. He served as the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 1935 until his death in 1972. Hoover was instrumental in modernizing law enforcement and establishing the FBI as a powerful agency. However, his tenure was also marked by controversy, including accusations of abuse of power and civil liberties violations. Hoover's legacy remains complex and significant in American history.
