Hugo Black was an American jurist and politician who served as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1937 to 1971. A former U.S. Senator from Alabama, Black was known for his strong defense of civil liberties and his interpretation of the Constitution as a living document. His opinions on cases involving free speech, equal protection, and the separation of church and state were instrumental in shaping modern constitutional law. Black's legacy as a champion of individual rights endures.
