Eliot Ness was an American law enforcement officer famous for his role in combating organized crime during the Prohibition era. As the leader of the "Untouchables," Ness played a key role in the enforcement of alcohol prohibition laws and the crackdown on gangster activities, particularly those of Al Capone. His work in law enforcement has been celebrated in both historical accounts and popular culture, making him a notable figure in American criminal justice history.
