Daniel Ortega, the Nicaraguan statesman, has played a prominent role in shaping the political landscape of Central America for decades. As the leader of the Sandinista revolution and later as president of Nicaragua, Ortega championed socialist ideals and pursued policies aimed at reducing poverty and inequality.
