Alfred Jarry, a provocative French writer and playwright, is best known for his absurdist masterpiece "Ubu Roi," a scathing satire of bourgeois society and authority. Jarry's surreal and subversive works anticipated the avant-garde movements of the 20th century, challenging conventional notions of art and literature with their irreverent humor and anarchic spirit.
"It is conventional to call "monster" any blending of dissonant elements. I call "monster" every original inexhaustible beauty."
