Alfred Jarry, a provocative French writer and playwright, is best known for his absurdist masterpiece "Ubu Roi," a scathing satire of bourgeois society and authority. Jarry's surreal and subversive works anticipated the avant-garde movements of the 20th century, challenging conventional notions of art and literature with their irreverent humor and anarchic spirit.
