CHAPTER

VERSE

48

योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय।
सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते || 2.48 ||

Yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṁ tyaktvā dhanañjaya
Siddhy-asiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṁ yoga uchyate ||

Perform your duty equipoised, O Arjuna, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.

Lesson:

Krishna, in this verse, tells Arjuna to do his work without worrying too much about whether he succeeds or fails. He says that being calm and balanced while doing your duty is like practicing yoga. Krishna advises Arjuna to focus on doing his best in whatever he does, without getting too attached to the results.

Krishna wants Arjuna to understand that life is full of ups and downs, and it's normal to experience both success and failure. However, what's important is to remain calm and composed through it all. When we can do that, we're practicing yoga – not just the physical exercises, but a way of living with peace and clarity.

The verse teaches us that it's okay to have goals and ambitions, but we shouldn't let them consume us. Instead of worrying too much about whether we'll succeed or not, we should focus on putting in our best effort and leave the rest to fate. This attitude of letting go of the need for control over outcomes brings us inner peace and freedom.

Krishna's advice is about finding balance in life. It's about being present in the moment and doing what needs to be done without getting too caught up in thoughts of what might happen next. By practicing detachment from the results of our actions, we can live more freely and joyfully, no matter what life throws our way.
